Teachings of Islam

Islam was established for the benefit of the whole society, for both Muslims and non-Muslims.

The body and soul are very sacred in Islam.  We believe that whoever saves one life, it is as if he has saved the whole of humanity.  Also, whoever kills one life, it is as if he has killed the whole of humanity.

Muslims should be good models of the real teachings of Islam, which are not alien or different from the previous messages before Islam.  All religions from God, including Islam, call people:

  • not to kill
  • not to commit adultery
  • not to steal
  • not to lie or cheat
  • not to have any arrogance in your heart
  • to be kind to the poor and less fortunate
Islam also teaches us to keep away from any kind of controversial confrontations.  Instead of this, we should participate in spreading a peaceful atmosphere in the society.

You should always honor any trust given to you, regardless of whether the trust is from a Muslim or a non-Muslim.  It is very unlawful to think that trust only needs to be honored between Muslims.  Do not exploit any of your privileges for your own personal gain.  For example, making expense reports at a company for expenses that were never incurred, or claiming sick days when you are not really sick.

Freedom of Religion

We believe in the rights of all people to believe in whatever he or she chooses. And this is the beauty of the land that we are blessed to live in, where we can all enjoy freedom of religion and freedom of speech, without harming one another.

We believe that Muslims should adhere to the rules of the society we live in, and always act in accordance with the laws of the land.

Ramadan Greetings

The Masjid would like to wish everyone Happy Ramadan.  Many happy wishes to all Muslims and non-Muslims.

Ramadan is the month where Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.

Fasting is a form of worship designated by Allah for Muslims, just as it was designated for communities before Islam.  Therefore it is not a religious practice that is only performed by Muslims.

The Center at a Glance

History

The center has been serving, by Allah's grace, Muslims who work in the midtown area of New York City.  Established in 1988, we first rented the ballroom of Roosevelt Hotel until 1991.  Afterwards, we rented the basement of an office building on West 44th Street.  With Allah's blessings, our community easily outgrew the basement but we lacked the money needed to buy a building.  As our community grew, we drew together to develop a set of common goals and objectives, one of which was to acquire a building of our own for a permanent location of our Masjid and Center.  In 1999, the Masjid moved to 154 East 55th Street after we purchased the building.

Activities and Goals

By the grace of Allah, the diversity of the new Muslims continues to grow as we are blessed to witness the Shahada of many brothers and sisters.  The significant location of our Masjid in Midtown makes it convenient for many non-Muslims looking for a reliable and satisfying source of information under one roof.

Backed by highly qualified Imams, the Masjid offers marriage and general counseling, and matrimonial services.

The center also offers different Islamic classes and lectures including Arabic, Qur'an recitation and tafseer.
